The Herb Cart

Close-up on the 2oz tincture kit.

The Herb Cart was created in 2015 by Herbalista as a way to get herbal preparations in and around the Atlanta community. It is a great set-up to fine tune your clinical skills. The Herb Cart has a specific set of remedies in stock, which trains you to be flexible and find new ways to use different herbal preparations. The Herb Cart was passed on to Fleur + Forage in the Spring of 2022. The first Fleur + Forage Herb Cart was set-up on March 31st, 2022 at Mercy Community Church.

How to join the Herb Cart Crew

  • Download the application for the next Herb Cart Training- which can be found below
  • Complete an Herb Cart Training.
  • Fulfill all Herb Cart Requirements as described below.

After completing the training, you will be able to sign-up to volunteer as a host and an herbal remedy dispenser. This will allow you to become comfortable with the herbal remedies and the different populations we serve. You will then start by shadowing the herbal clinicians before sitting with a client yourself.

I am excited to announce that the next Fleur + Forage Herb Cart training will be October 20th-22nd. The training will take place in person at the Fleur + Forage Herbal Studio. The time commitment is from 7-9PM on Friday the 20th (this might happen over Zoom), and 10AM-5PM on Saturday and Sunday.

During our time together, we will go through the Herb Cart manual which explains the history of the Herb Cart, the different protocols and types of set-ups we may encounter. We will familiarize ourselves with herb/drug interactions, herbal first aid, and many other aspects of starting and running a mobile herbal clinic. Sunday afternoon will be dedicated to running practice scenarios and familiarizing yourself with the herbal remedies on the Herb Cart.

You must meet the following requirements to join the training and volunteer on the Herb Cart:

*Applicants must have a solid foundation in herbal medicine, either self-taught or from an herbal program. We use a wide variety of herbs on the Herb Cart and a solid materia medica will allow you to use them easily.

*Applicants need to have their CPR/First Aid training up to date before the training. It needs to be renewed every two years. The Red Cross offers in person and hybrid classes.

*One can also complete a Wilderness First Responder training either in person or online. I took the one offered online by Survival Med.  NOLS and Landmark Learning offer one in person.

*Attend a weekend long training. This year it will be held on October 20th-22nd 2023. The training is limited to 8 participants.

*Suggested: volunteer at the Harriet Tubman Foot Care Clinic. Send an email to opendoorfootclinic@gmail.com . They set-up the Third Wednesday of the month. This is a great place to put your first aid skills into practice. They use a mix of herbal and allopathic remedies.

*Demonstrate herbal competence, compassion & pragmatism as a health worker. Please note, participation in the program is at the discretion of the Fleur + Forage Crew.

*To stay on the crew as a volunteer you must show a continued commitment to your herbal studies and community healthcare.
